A Softer Side of Fall

Fall in New England is known for its spectacular foliage with striking reds, oranges and yellows. These bold colors often overshadow the more muted shades. This year I decided to look for a softer side of fall.

This often unnoticed side has its own palette including pale pinks,

soft oranges,

varied browns,

faded greens,

light yellows,

and deep purples.

The light is different in autumn. It shines more gently and from lower in the sky, providing a back-lit glow.

Fall's softness also comes from its texture as plants fluff, dry and release.

This softer side eases us gently toward the bare, monotone of winter.

Wishing us a fall filled with ease, softness and grace.
